Bike Repair Club

A 6-week, in-school early intervention programme where students learn bike repair, guided by a trained mechanic and youth worker. The project builds practical and soft skills through hands-on learning.

About the programme

Bike Repair Club is more than tightening a chain or fixing a puncture. It’s a hands-on, hope-filled programme designed for students who might otherwise be at risk of referral to an alternative learning provision. Delivered in school across 6 weeks, up to 12 young people take part in, learning practical maintenance skills while building trust, confidence, and a positive mindset.

What’s involved

Guided by experts

Each session is led by two Urban Pursuit staff, including a fully trained bike mechanic, blending technical know-how with youth work support.

6 weeks of progress

Six weekly sessions (~2 hours each) where young people learn step-by-step skills: punctures, brakes, gears, cables, safety checks, and keeping a bike road-ready.

All the kit

We bring tools and work stands. We will provide project bikes, with one session where students can potentially bring their own.

Why it matters

  • Pride in learning a relevant skill to take away.
  • Supportive relationships which build trust and resilience.
  • Early intervention that redirects energy and grows social competence.
